What are Amazon variations?
Variant is a concept on the Amazon platform. It refers to different models of the same product, such as different colors, different sizes, etc. We call each size and color a variant, which coexists in one listing.
Good variation relationship listings allow customers to compare and select products based on different attributes, including size, color, or other characteristics, using the options available on the product detail page.
According to Amazon's official definition, Amazon variants refer to a set of products that have parent and child related products. In other words, Amazon variants can be divided into child and parent, and different listings can be connected by a parent to form a new listing. The parent is like a rope that connects all the child products together.

What are the benefits of combining Amazon variations?
Merging variants has a great effect on increasing product sales. Sellers often use this to "use old products to promote new ones" and improve product reviews and rankings in search results. Specifically, it includes:
1. Increase the number of comments on a single listing to improve rankings and reviews;
When launching new products, if the listing has no reviews, the conversion rate of the product will be reduced, and the advertising conversion rate will not be ideal. Therefore, merging variants is an effective promotion method.
2. Drain traffic and increase product sales
Amazon is a platform that focuses more on products than stores. It is difficult for consumers to go to a seller's store to see what products are available. When these products are merged, sellers who see the products can see multiple models or color options at the same time, which is also a way to promote sales.
3. Which operations may have abuse variants?
1. Changing the parent or child listing page, causing the description to be inconsistent with the product itself;
2. Changing the parent product details page causes it to not match the child product;
3. Add products that do not match the parent body and are not the true children of the parent body;
4. Add a child that is not a manufacturer of the current parent;
5. Merge zombie listings;
Specifically, the following operations can be identified as abuse variants:
- Not essentially the same product
- The variation theme is named incorrectly
- Add some ASINs that have not been sold for a long time to variations
- The sub-product images look inconsistent (especially the main image)
- Changing a product detail page (parent or child) in a way that makes it materially different from the originally listed product
- Renovate the listing, remove the sub-items with low ratings and raise the review of the entire variant
- This category does not allow the creation of "variants"
- "Variant themes" are not allowed in this category; add your own themes that are not included in the "Variant themes"
- To share reviews: merge listings from different categories into the same variant; merge unsaleable ASINs into selling ASINs
- Changing the product details page of the parent product directly results in the mismatch between the parent product and the child product attributes;
- New products and old product links are directly bound as parent-child variations
- New ASINs are linked to old listings to gain traffic by leveraging the rankings and reviews that have already been obtained;
- Create multiple sub-bodies and merge them together after evaluation
- The differences between the sub-products do not fall into the category of "variant theme"
- Create multiple links for the exact same product and merge them together
- Manually add non-existent attributes as variant attributes;
- Replace the sub-body information with other products or a product that needs to be updated
4. What conditions do compliant variants usually need to meet?
Amazon is very strict about creating variants. Only products that meet the following six criteria are suitable for establishing a variant system:
- Accurate product information
- Products that are essentially the same and share the same name
- The category supports variation themes: the variation option must be available when uploading the listing
- Only the variation theme attributes differ
- There is no difference between the old and new versions
V. Possible consequences of illegal use of variants
Illegal use of variants may result in a warning at the very least, or even store closure at the worst.
